Pop Brown

In recent news...my Grandpa recently passed away. Pop lived to ripe old age of 83. It's bittersweet. He was always such an active guy...always up on a roof or tinkinering with something trying to fix it. We all swore he would outlive us all! A few years ago, he came down with Alzheimer's and went downhill pretty fast. We were all taking turns watching him and caring for him, but when he started to wander off...we decided the best thing to do was admit him to the Alzheimer's unit of a local nursing home. I can't however help, feeling an intense amount of relief knowing that he is finally whole again and with my Gram again!

  1. L- I am SO very sorry to hear about your grandfather... It must have been aweful watching the slow "missing pieces" of the mind slip ...I can't imagine anything worse than losing a memory....If you need to "type" for therapy- I'm here! I love the three generations picture-beautiful...My condolences to you and your family. A

  2. Hey, I'm so sorry about your loss. You are so right saying he is "whole" again and with your Gram because thank God his pain and suffering has ended. With your relief there will also be grief, rightfully so, but take solace in your friends & family. What a stud muffin your Grandpa was :) My mom and I JUST had a conversation about Alzheimer's last night, how it's so unfair and we don't understand how or why that's the punishment for people who make it into their 70s 80s and 90s. Whatever the reason and in any event, I hope your Grandpa is resting in peace. You will be in my prayers. <3

  3. I LOVE the Vintage Navy picture. I have a picture of my father and it's really priceless. Those guys WERE/ARE the greatest generation ever. They saw all the changes in America and defended it faithfully. I think there are some strong genetics there with your eyes and cheek bones! I reminded of Ben Franklin's epitaph....
Pop's is boasting a new mind and body where everything works!!

    Its Contents torn Out
And Stript of its Lettering and Gilding)
    Lies Here, Food for Worms.

  4. Thanks girls! He really was something...he did a lot of amazing things in his lifetime and I know right now, he's probably up in Heaven totally rewiring the place...LOL! The calling hours last night were a very nice tribute, the Legion came and performed a service...of course I lost it when they sang "Amazing Grace" (that song gets me everytime!) The Funeral Service today should be just as nice. He will have a Military Service with the color guard and passing of the flag...and then we lay him to rest next to "Mummy" (as he called my gram). He led a very full life, so there are no regrets! He is at peace now! Cindy...I love that quote from B Frank's epitaph! Very comforting!
