When you forget your moves...make them up!

OMG! Last night's recital was the BEST! Although as a mother it can be very stressful, from getting out of the house with everything you need...make-up, curling iron, hairspray, costumes, shoes, coloring books, camera, video camera, flowers, etc. to getting a good seat, doing costume changes, getting the perfect pictures and shots...but it is so totally worth it!! To make it even better, Ayva completely stole the show!! During her ballet routine, all the girls were supposed to line-up on one side of the stage and sashay one at a time across the stage, but their cue in the dance studio was to line up by the windows, and since the stage had no windows...the girls were all kinds of confused! Needless to say, they got the sashaying started, and Ayva went out of order and didn't quite know what to do so I guess she just made it up with a smile and a giggle every step of the way! She had the whole crowd laughing and it didn't phase her at all! I am so proud of her and I think this proves what a confident and unique girl she is...two qualities I think will take her far in life!! And I'm pretty sure she has a solid future as a performer!!

  1. I LOVE that Ayva knew that the "show must go on!"...I clearly remember dancing school as a child, constantly forgetting the moves and being a nervous wreck about it...Your daughter has it ALL figured out....Roll with it and have fun! As for the "writing critique...It is as if we are having a conversation when you write...I can vividly feel like I was there (and the pictures don't hurt either!)...You keep it real and funny...Two qualities that keep me wanting to read MORE!

  2. Dance is an amazing opportunity for children to learn their oral presentation skills, how to stand tall and proud, and how to maintain eye contact! There is nothing worse than a teenager who fails to see the value of looking you in the eye while slumping! (While I didn't have the benefit of dance class, I did have "tales from the crypt," i.e., my mother's SHOULDER PINCHER stories about how posture was corrected in her day!!!) Your baby is a vision in blue and I can completely "see" her working the crowd!
(p.s...about your earlier post...In my opinion, Charlotte is the most beautiful name. It is not common and I wanted a more traditional, older name. I was half-right as mygirl has been a fun-loving, non-traditional "old" soul since Day One!)

  3. Ayva is definitely a character, and altough she carries a VERY big attiude at times...she radiates a confidence and sense of style that I wish I had as a child!! I'm so proud of her!!
*By the way...I tried to post the video of the show, but I think it may be slightly larger than allowed for the blog, so if you have access to Facebook and would like to friend me, you can check the video out on there! It's certainly worth the watch!

  4. I loved reading this ... you paint such a picture I felt like I was there. Not being a mother I only speak from experience with nieces and nephews, but really -- kids say and do the darndest things. They're always good for a surprise. Sounds like your little one is confident and spunky, good for her!
